Before I install the latest Thirtyseven4 EDR Security 8.3 Console, I'd like to know how the updating mechanism works, as with the EPS Console 7.6 my drive became full due to the update directory. Will this happen again? How does the EDR Security Console handle updates?
HOW UPDATES WORK IN 8.3
The update mechanism in EDR 8.3 (by default) does not use the same approach as previous EPS 6.x and 7.x Console's. Upon installation of the previous Console's, an Update Manager module was also created. The Update Manager was responsible for centrally downloading and distributing updates to all the clients. In EDR 8.3 that is no longer the case. By default, each deployed Thirtyseven4 client will reach out to our external update server for their updates. The EDR 8.3 Console is no longer responsible to centrally distributing the updates. If you have systems that are not updating we need to see if these systems have been online and connected to the Internet. If systems are powered down or retired they will not be updating. What can you tell us about a few of the systems that are reported as 'Not Updated since 30 days'? Are they online? Did they successfully migrate to 8.3?
Additionally, EDR 8.3 does provide an option to create an Update Agent Client. If you designate a system as an Update Agent Client, that client will act like the Update Manager of 7.x, where it will be scheduled to download and distribute updates internally to all your clients if you'd prefer to keep that process in place.
